Elizabeth Rutsate is a Senior Law Lecturer at Africa University (2021 to present) having previously worked in the same capacity at the University of Zimbabwe (2016-2021) where she lectured in Family Law, Women’s Law and the Law of Succession.
Upon graduating from law school in 1991 she joined the magistracy, which she left in 2002 at the grade of Provincial Magistrate after having gained considerable experience in the administration of estates.
She has publications in the area of gender and women’s human rights including a 2018 journal article interrogating the inheritance dilemma faced by cohabitating women, an issue addressed (hopefully) under the new marriage laws in Zimbabwe.
Elizabeth is a registered legal practitioner since 1992 and has private practice experience, having worked under Masawi and Partners law firm between 2006 and 2007.
